Found my runway inspiration in the flesh!

IMG_0989At Nordstrom today, I saw the ready to wear version of the DVF dress that inspired my multi-sized gingham blouse/skirt combo. I paid about $100 for my fabric and patterns. This dress cost $675. Felt pretty good know how much I saved! I’m really enjoying the idea of having the blouse and skirt as separates that I can wear together. I think from now on, I’m going to sew in mini “collections” – creating one or two looks of coordinating items that I can mix and match with my existing wardrobe.

I’m also considering allowing myself to buy only shoes for the next little while and giving myself the challenge of making my clothes. I find that I spend as much time searching for the perfect item as I do just making it, so I might as well. Thoughts?

  1. Hi Samantha, great article – I love looking to the runway for sewing inspiration too 🙂 And I really like your idea of sewing mini collections – fantastic idea!

    1. Thanks! I’m finding I am wearing more of those items from last spring than anything else I’ve made. I didn’t plan my sewing this spring in the same way and am absolutely regretting it. I’ll definitely be doing another capsule for fall/winter.
